SUMMARY:Theatre In St James Presents The Tragedie of Romeo and Juliet: A Staged Reading
DESCRIPTION:Pay what you can. No ticket required. Join us in St James Park\, 120 King Street E\, on and around the Michael Comstock Pavilion for Theatre In St. James Park. \n\nWritten by William Shakespeare\nDirected by Nicholas Koy Santillo \n\n\n\n\nThree Actors.\nTwo Households.\nOne Absolute Banger. \nWhat was Shakespeare before stage lights\, microphones and the Fourth Wall? Before he was revered and canonized\, Shakespeare’s plays were raucous\, irreverent and relevant. When first staged in 1596\, Romeo and Juliet referenced contemporary politics and the eternal human condition. \nMuch has changed since the 16th century\, yet The Tragedie of Romeo and Juliet remains poignant and powerful — an autocratic Prince\, an optimistic proselytizer\, a loving nurse\, and two star-crossed lovers. \nWhether you’re in Verona or Toronto\, one thing is certain: The day is hot\, the Capulets abroad. \n\nThis summer\, the Old Town Toronto BIA and Alumnae Theatre Company present a staged reading in homage to the raucous and interactive origins of live performance. Inspired by punk rock and presented outdoors\, sans fourth wall\, a handful of players will take to St. James Park to tell this story of love\, violence and tragedy. \n  \n\nPERFORMANCE DATES & TIMES\nFri Aug 1 2025\, 7pm-8pm\nSat Aug 2 2025\, 7pm-8pm\nSun Aug 3 2025\, 2pm-3pm\nFri Aug 8 2025\, 7pm-8pm\nSat Aug 9 2025\, 7pm-8pm\nSun Aug 10 2025\, 2pm-3pm
