Without additional and continued financial support, our ability to operate and preserve Toronto’s First Post Office will be at real risk. For over 40 years the Town of York Historical Society has operated Toronto’s First Post Office as an Old Town community hub, Post Office, and destination for travellers both from across Canada and abroad. Our mission has always been to bring the history of mail, communication, and early history of Toronto, to our visitors. Our journey to encourage and inspire has reached the farthest corners of the world bringing in over 30,000 visitors a year.

Toronto’s First Post Office is not just a building. It is Canada’s oldest surviving purpose-built post office still in operation, recognized as a National Historic Site, a museum, and stationery gift shop that provides a platform for local and Canadian artists. The Post Office & Museum’s continued operation in these various capacities has become a pivotal asset to the Old Town community and its many visitors, as our offerings of rotating exhibits, guided tours, school programs, and community events connect people with the early history of our city and provide them the opportunity to fulfill the original purpose of the building by utilizing our Post Office.

If the Society is forced to close, Toronto would lose a unique, living history site that connects us back to the foundations of our city, severing a vital connection to our past. Our continued programming to mail letters featuring our specialized and historical Post Mark has sent a small piece of us to the farthest corners of the planet. This is not simply a museum. This is an active living heritage site that helps define Toronto’s identity and deepen residents’ connection to the past while fulfilling the original purpose of the building, the only National Historic Site in Canada to do so.

Love is in the Mail: A Temporary Exhibit at Toronto’s First Post Office

Coming this April, a new temporary exhibit is being installed at Toronto’s First Post Office. Designed and curated by the students of the University of Toronto’s Master of Museum Studies Capstone Project, the exhibit, “Love is in the Mail” aims to share the history of love through letters in 19th century Toronto. With detailed examples of historic love letters from Torontonian residents, the exhibit will explain the social customs of the time, courting regulations, and how even with the passage of time, we still long to transmit emotion through communication.

This exhibition was developed as part of the Faculty of Information’s Museum Studies Capstone Projects course in collaboration with Toronto’s First Post Office, and is curated by Hannah Bell, Alexis Green, Jessica Merlihan, and Victoria Tywonek-Sobota. Special thanks to Dr. Irina D. Mihalache for providing mentorship to the students throughout the project.

To celebrate ten years of ATTIC, the Toronto-based jewellery studio has partnered with Misfit Diamonds to create a special anniversary collection featuring natural champagne diamonds from Canada’s Gahcho Kué Mine.

For ATTIC x Misfit | Ten, the ATTIC team had the rare privilege of hand-selecting the rough diamonds and choosing each cut. Guided by their enduring love for antique diamonds and an appreciation for historical artistry, they curated a selection of Modern Antique Cuts – stones that balance old-world romance with contemporary precision – alongside distinctive shapes such as the Heart and Carré Cut. In warm champagne tones, these diamonds showcase the natural glow formed over billions of years.

Each piece in the collection was designed to honour the individuality of its diamond, allowing the stone’s character to inform the final design. Crafted in solid 14k gold, the pieces evolve ATTIC’s signature settings with refined proportions, unexpected angles, fluid curves, and bold dimensions. The result is timeless jewellery that feels distinctly ATTIC: simple but never simplistic, refined yet full of character.

The partnership between ATTIC and Misfit Diamonds has grown over the past decade through shared values, mutual respect, and a belief in thoughtful craftsmanship. our work, but this is the first time we’ve been part of the custom diamond-cutting

aesthetic.”

Olympic Cheese Honours Canadian Wins

Toronto’s own Nick Tsioros, Managing Director and Importer at Olympic Cheese in St. Lawrence Market, has returned from the World Cheese Awards in Bern, Switzerland, where he once again served as an international judge at the world’s largest cheese competition.

This year’s event brought together 5,244 cheeses from more than 40 countries, evaluated by a panel of over 260 judges. For more than a decade, Nick has been part of this elite judging community — an honour extended to only a select group of experts worldwide.

Canada delivered an outstanding performance in Bern, earning 26 medals across multiple categories. A highlight was the recognition of Bête-à-Séguin, which captured a prestigious Super Gold, placing it among the top cheeses in the world and shining a spotlight on Canadian craftsmanship.
