Join us in Berczy Park, 35 Wellington St E, for lunchtime music with Dennis Kwok.
Dennis Kwok is a Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator. Originally from Calgary, his interest in jazz and improvised music led him to further studies at Humber College where he completed his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance and Composition. Since then, he has been a musician-in-residence at the Banff Centre For
Arts and Creativity, recognized as a 2020 TD Toronto Jazz Festival Discovery Series Special Project awardee, performed at the T.U. Jazz Festival, and shared the stage with
many JUNO-award winning artists, from Allison Au, Jackie Richardson, to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
In 2020, he released his debut album “Windward Bound” with the Dennis Kwok Jazz Orchestra. It has since been described as “an elegant album of program music for 19-piece jazz orchestra” by WholeNote, and “nothing if not ambitious” by Mel Minter of
Musically Speaking.
As an arranger and composer, Dennis is in high-demand for his ability to seamlessly blend
influences from all genres from chamber music to big band. His work has been showcased at the Etobicoke Jazz Festival, chosen for the Spectrum New Voices Composers Residency, and can be heard on several recordings by Toronto-based artists of all genres.
