July is the month for beach balls, sunscreen and out of office autoresponders. (Note to self, we need to put that vacation request in. Oops!) Whether you are taking a long weekend or seven blissful days away from the work grind, Toronto’s annual heatwave will have you looking for ways to stay cool, hydrated, relaxed and full of yummy eats.

Thankfully Old Town Toronto has everything you need. Sugarcane juice or elderberry hibiscus iced tea? Check! Patios and massages? Check! Local lagers and ales? Check! Wings, burritos and shrimp rolls? Check!

Scroll on to discover what our local businesses are excited to offer this month. As always, thank you for your continued effort to shop, dine and support local.

Botox Treatment for Jaw (TMJ) Pain

Botox is injected into the temporalis and masseter muscles that together can cause jaw pain and headaches. Botox works by blocking nerve signals that cause uncontrollable muscle movements, essentially relaxing the muscles. Botox injections take only 10 to 15 minutes and remain effective for three to five months. Therefore, like its cosmetic counterpart, Botox TMD treatments must be repeated every few months depending on the patient. Most patients who receive Botox treatment regularly after a year to two, have noticed the decrease frequency needs for retreatment due to the fact that their muscles have atrophied over time. Therefore, the need for Botox treatment can decrease from 3-4 times a year to maintenance treatment of 1-2 times a year. If you have TMD and our dentist at Yonge & Front Dental determines that you are a good candidate for this treatment, how often you’ll need to receive Botox injections to relieve symptoms will depend on the severity of your condition. Many dental insurance companies ACCEPT Botox TMD treatments.
