Market Street, Toronto, ON, M5E 1M6 +Google Map

Join us on Saturday, July 19th from 1pm to 4pm for a beautiful afternoon on Market Street!

We are over the moon to partner up with the St. Lawrence Market to present Joy in the Market – a twist on our Joy in the Park outdoor events series! We are presenting both theatre show CORPUS’ Camping Royale and outstanding vocalist Melat Mengesha with her band. It’s free – you just have to come and relax with us!

Are you ready for a day of fun? Bring your little ones so they can enjoy our craft section, stilt walker Hayley Landry, and facepainting with Linda Epp! So much to do, enjoy, and rejoice.

With Camping Royale by CORPUS, follow two queens from a different time who go on an absurd camping trip, far away from court. With only the help of a faithful servant, they will have to use their creativity to survive in the wild. Their castle is reduced to basic tents, royal dances have to be executed on grass, one needs to fish for lunch and cope with the unpredictable whims of Mother Nature… Two worlds collide in this humorous and charming fairy tale that combines dance with object theatre. A show that has toured the whole work and which is perfect fun for all ages.

In between two performances by CORPUS, enjoy Melat Mengesha’s music – she is an outstanding vocalist, born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Winning the first season of Balageru/Ethiopian Idol in 2015 was a major breakthrough in her music career. She has worked on NGO projects advocating for women farmers. Melat has toured in Ethiopia and Europe as a singer and produced music video clips. In 2017, she released audio music entitled “Sidet,” about women in exile. Now based in Toronto, she has been performing in many concerts, community events, and festivals. Join us and enjoy the sweet sound and vibes of East Africa!
